Why You Need to Clean Your Lululemon Yoga Mat

Your yoga mat will need more than a quick dust down or wipe. Think about all it has to deal with.

You sweat on it, you put your feet on it, you place it on the ground. It also has to deal with the particles flying around in a yoga class.

If you don’t clean it, your lululemon yoga mat will collect bacteria and develop mould. A dirty yoga mat will also lose it’s stickiness, as all lululemon yoga mat owners will have experienced.

The lululemon yoga mats have specific qualities that you will maintain when you clean them regularly (and properly)…

The innovative grippy top layer absorbs moisture to help users stay grounded in high-sweat practices.

A sustainably sourced and FSC™-certified natural rubber base provides cushioning and textured grip for low-sweat practices.

It is also reversible, users can flip it as needed between the smooth, grippy side and the cushioned, natural rubber side.

An antimicrobial additive helps prevent mould and mildew on the mat.

So clean lululemon yoga mats will keep the above qualities.

Things to Avoid When Cleaning Your Lululemon Yoga Mat

Cleaning a Lululemon yoga mat properly can extend its life and ensure it remains safe and comfortable for your yoga practice.

So make sure you avoid these things when cleaning your Lululemon yoga mat…

Avoid Using Harsh Chemicals

Strong cleaning agents can damage the mat’s material, causing it to deteriorate faster. It’s best to use gentle, natural cleaners.

Don’t Soak the Mat

Submerging your Lululemon yoga mat in water can harm its integrity. Water can get trapped inside the material, leading to mould and mildew.

Avoid Excessive Scrubbing

While you might be tempted to scrub hard to remove stains or dirt, doing so can wear down the surface of your mat, affecting its texture and grip.

Steer Clear of Oily Products

Oils can make the mat slippery and degrade the material over time. This includes essential oils or oil-based cleaning solutions.

Don’t Use a Washing Machine

Placing your mat in a washing machine, even on a gentle cycle, can cause it to warp or tear.

Avoid Direct Sunlight for Drying

While sunlight is a great natural disinfectant, direct exposure for prolonged periods can fade the color of your mat and make the material brittle.

Don’t Use High Heat

Whether from a dryer, a radiator, or direct sunlight, high heat can damage the mat’s material, causing it to become warped or cracked.

Avoid Heavy Rinsing

Rinsing your mat under a heavy flow of water can push dirt deeper into the material, making it harder to clean and potentially creating a breeding ground for bacteria.
